Today I posted all my blogs from my the beginning of my Post-Baby training. I began training Jan8th, 2012 at 3.5 months post partum. I felt I needed the time after baby to recover, spend with him, and it was hard finding the time/balance of it all. I got a late start, but I enjoyed that time with my baby tremendously! The post-baby pics so far were on May13, 2012 at 18 weeks of training and 7.5 months post partum. I participated in a challenge at Bodybuilding.com for the first 12 weeks, then began a second mid way thru to give me another 6 weeks. I feel like 12 week goals are a good time frame. ALWAYS take before pics. I didnt 2 years ago and had to search for a pic of me at my heaviest and most out of shape weight to compare to once I “transformed”. I will post those pics so that you understand where I come from. I have never been “heavy” or “over weight”… but like I said in my “about me” page… from age 38-40 I gained about 15 pounds over my average and lost all muscle tone. The first transformation was about getting “me” back. Getting healthy back. Being a “fit mom”! I continue on that journey. The last month since those pics May 13 I havent made much change. We prepared for my hubby to work out of town some, then he was gone, then back, and our whole schedule has been changed up. With a baby… it does take balance and a schedule! Basically, I’ve maintained by staying on my clean eating and having an “reward” or “cheat” meal about once a week. My workouts went from 5-6 days a week to 2-4 during the last month. I actually have not felt as good to be honest. I enjoy the energy I actually get from training. I got back on track last week and will have training day 5 tonight for this week. My 4th weight training and I have had 1 cardio only day. Any how, HAPPY TRAINING.. AND HAPPY EATING! 🙂

Challenge 2 Essay:
This challenge game along with great timing. I had already begun my post baby transformation, but was having a hard time getting started the first few weeks. This challenge renewed my excitement and gave me a goal time. I am now 18 weeks in to my workouts and 7 months 2 weeks post partum from having my third son at age 41. I am now age 42! I finally feeling productive as the changes start showing in the mirror/lens. I eat a “clean diet” and feel that is the biggest key in changing your body and key to overall health and fitness! I work out 5-6 days a week. I manage 4 weight training session, usually abs twice a week incorporated in, steady state cardio 3-4 days a week. I also enjoy high intensity cardio circuits. When I finally got the morning cardio going I started seeing the fat drop a little better. Some days my plan just doesnt work out. Thats life. I work full time as a Registered Nurse M-F, a wife and mother of 3 sons. I have a full plate. But feeling fit and healthy not only helps my confidence, it helps me be able to stay active with my sons and spouse. Thank you BSN for giving me a goal! Although I am not quite where I want to be yet, I feel I have proven that it IS possible to transform not only your body, but your life over 40 AND after a baby! It’s not easy. But, its worth it!
18 weeks of Training.. May 13, 2012
14 Weeks Training… 6.5 months post partum
My 3rd son is now 6.5 months old. I am 14 weeks in to my transformation. I have 4 weeks left in the BSN challenge and 10 in the Dymatize (which marks the end of my 2nd 12 weeks!) Whew. My goals for the last couple weeks has been to increase my cardio to reduce my fat%. I have been managing 1-2 days with my infant son jogging about 2 – 2.25 miles and 2-3 days on the elliptical in the mornings. I found trying to do weight/strength training AND cardio at night was not in the cards.. I just did not have enough energy left over by the time “workout” time rolled around. My weight training is still at night in our Garage Gym except the weekends when I actually get to lift before dark! All my weight training/strength training is done with free weight, body weight, and very few machine movements on our home equipement with pulleys. I enjoy lifting heavy and doing crossfit style workouts as well. My hubby wants to participate in a Warrior Dash this summer and maybe a Tough Mudder in the fall, so I’ve got my work cut out for me! Progress is coming along as good as can be expected I think. I dont have the time or energy I did 2 years ago, but I am giving it all I got. I want to exceed my results from last time I transformed and continue to live fit and healthy! I DO have another new son to raise! P.s. My oldest had his junior prom last weekend! What a span! I hope to inspire other women my age that it IS possible to look good in a bikini again AND live healthier than ever!
Entering in to my Week 12 of post baby transformation! I have to say, I’m not where I would like to be, but the last two weeks I have been able to really kick it up a notch and get better workouts in! I have had to add morning cardio in. I am building the muscle back, but the fat weight not dropping like I’d like. It’s getting easier to find the energy in my busy busy life with 3 sons and a full time job… so hopefully during the NEXT 12 weeks I’ll get where I want to be! Just in time for SUMMER! Progress pics and end of the first challenge “after” pics next Sunday! Lets do this!
End of 12 Weeks Essay:
Today marks 12 weeks that I began my post baby transformation and this challenge. This challenge came along at the right time to help me get kick started back in to my fitness goals. The second half of my pregnancy I wasnt able to work out except for swimming due to sciatica and foot pain, therefore I feel like I put on more fat and lost more muscle than I expected. I gained 30 pounds during my pregnancy. I was 41 years old. I am now 42 and glad to be getting back on track to stay healthy and fit for not only myself, but my three sons. I eat clean daily and usually allow myself a cheat meal on the weekends. I eat 5-6 meals a day. I drink enough water to drown in . I workout 6 days a week now. The first 4-6 weeks of this challenge I feel like I didnt really get going good and had a hard time finding not only the energy but the time for myself. About half way through things started to fall in to place. The last two weeks have been my best yet! I was getting in my weight training each evening, but failing to get in enough cardio to burn the fat. The last two weeks I have gotton up extra early and did morning cardio. The added cardio seems to be making a difference in my waistline. I am not where I want to be yet, but have started to see some definate changes. I think I see more change in my upper body than lower body. My legs need leaning out quite a bit more and my glutes definately need lifting. My weight has only fluctuated 1.5lbs this entire challenge. I know I have lost fat, so that means I have replaced it with muscle! Yay! So, all in all I think I am on track with my goals. I know I will meet the rest, it just takes time. I am 42 years old with a 6 month old baby working full time as a Registered Nurse and raising two teenagers and a husband! Here’s to the next 12 weeks! Cant wait to see where this journey takes me! I hope to prove to other “Over 40’s” and new moms that being fit IS an option! 😀
10 weeks of training…..
Finally! I had a great week of workouts last week! 6 days out of 7! I would much rather workout at 4pm right after work…. but thats the only couple hours I have to spend with my baby boy each day. So it’s at the end of my day. Usually 8:30 or 9pm before I get to it. I started supplements 1 week ago. I can tell the Fat Burner is giving me energy in the morning and the afternoon. That helps. I cant do a preworkout supplement for energy because its right before bedtime… so I just push thru it. On the weekend when I get to workout afternoons it sure is nice to have more energy and power for workouts. They seem so much more productive. I save one of my leg/glute days for Sunday afternoon! Last week was the first week I got TWO leg/glute workouts in! Thats how I like it… thats what it takes for me to see the changes I need. My husband and I did hill sprints in our pasture Saturday evening. That was actually a fun change! This is week 10 of the Transformation Challenge and road to getting fit again post baby. Week 3 of the BSN Challenge! I think I’ll enter the Muscle Pharm challege too. Just keeps me motivated to be accountable to something other than just me. I cant wait to be fit again! Getting stronger every workout! Now if all this baby fat would burn off!
Well, I’m about 8 weeks in to my Post baby transformation. Changing my body has proved to be more challenging this time around. Its not necessarily because I just had a baby and what my body went thru.. it’s finding TIME for workout/for myself with a 17 year old, 13 year old (all their activities), and a 5 month old baby who requires the majority of mommy’s time! I work full time as an RN and my hubby gets home during the week at 7. So workouts are after dinner and baby’s down. Finding the energy at 9pm is a mind game! I like to workout 6 days a week. So far I have managed 3,4 or maybe 5! Its frustrating me.. but part of being a mom. My diet is SPOT ON! I know that is key for losing this baby fat! I love LIFTING! I hate CARDIO! But, I get it in every evening I can! Goals this week… 6 days, increase weight on some moves (lift heavier), do my CARDIO, start new supplements… basically KICK MY OWN BUTT!
Day 14.. this was a rest day, the first one after 4 workout days. I still only managed 5 days this week and not as much cardio as I think I need to help burn the fat I stored during my recent pregnancy. This time around is definately a balancing act. I DID however manage my two leg/glute days! I increased the weight on my biceps and my upper back and felt more soreness in those areas. I was not quite sure how far to drop back on my weight training after so much time off, but am finding I can increase back up quicker than I thought in some areas. Worked my Abs over good yesterday too… so ready to tighten the baby belly up! We have alot going on this week after school… but I am going to aim for more fat burning cardio and hoping for 6 days again! ………..D
Day 7 of my Post-Baby Transformation: I think I am more motivated because I have seen myself transform before and I know it is possibe, but I also get disappointed because I know how far my body is from where it was. I retained some of my strength… I didnt loose it all, but I am so far from where I was in March 2011. I gained 30 pounds during my pregnancy. I lost 20 within the first 3 weeks after delivery. The last 10 pounds of fat still to go. I know how hard I had to work to loose that before. Tightening those stretched out abs…. I am so ready for that! Its amazing how much change happens with pregnancy and no heavy lifting for 8 months! Being over 40, its an exceptional challenge. I learned that before. Increasing and maintaing and increased metabolism takes alot more work than it did at 25! I only managed 5 days this week. I like to do 6. I work full time as a Registered Nurse 7:30-3:30. I have two other teenage sons. We have after school practices and games and do not get home 3-5 days till 5:45-6. Having to care for a newborn and maintain a household I found myself very frustrated trying to find time to workout when I still have enery to do it! I know what I want,, just have to figure out how to get it all squeezed it. My husband works till 7-7:30 most days. I wasnt very sore on my arm/chest and shoulder/back days… so those will increased in intensity this week. I had my leg day yesterday and I am REALLY sore today! Yay! I like to have two leg/glute days, so that is my goal this week. I have to find two days that I am not exhausted by workout time! I eat a clean diet, and I learned that my body responds well to it. I allowed more calories and cheats during pregnancy and while nursing my son. No more cheats! Diet back on track! Lets do this!!
